RANKED BY RATED CAPACITY · FROM OUR INVENTORY Largest power plants in the world The biggest power stations in our inventory of 51,483 records, ranked by rated capacity in megawatts (MW), with the country, fuel, owner as reported, year commissioned and source status. Three Gorges Dam (China) is first at 22,500 MW. Browse by fuel to find the largest solar farms, wind farms, dams, nuclear, coal and gas stations.
All plants Solar Wind Hydro Nuclear Coal Gas Oil Geothermal Biomass Storage Inventory note: these rankings come from this atlas’s own inventory, not an independent world list. It combines the WRI Global Power Plant Database (version 1.3.0, unmaintained since 2022) with newer official inventories for some countries, so recently built plants — above all solar, wind and battery projects — can be missing, and some listed plants may have closed.
How to read this: capacity is the rated size of a plant, not what it generates now — a solar farm or wind farm produces far less than its rating over a year (see capacity factor ). See data sources for what each country covers. A binational plant such as Itaipú is recorded once for each country. A complex of several stations can appear as one record. Click a plant to see its map record and source.

Largest solar farms in the world (in our inventory) Newer plants may be missing. Solar capacity has grown very quickly since the WRI baseline was last updated (it has been unmaintained since 2022), so the biggest parks built or expanded since are missing or smaller here. For example, India’s Bhadla Solar Park is about 2,245 MW and China’s Gonghe Talatan Solar Park is far larger. For a current worldwide ranking see the Wikipedia list of photovoltaic power stations .
Largest wind farms in the world (in our inventory) Newer plants may be missing. Many of the largest wind farms, especially offshore, were built or expanded after the WRI baseline was last updated (it has been unmaintained since 2022). The newest giant projects may be missing or smaller here; check the national register or the operator for current figures.
